Job Overview:
The Video Editor will be responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product suitable for broadcasting. The material may include camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics, and special effects. This is a key role in the post-production process and the editor’s skill can determine the quality and delivery of the final product. The editor will work closely with the director to achieve the desired end result.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Reviewing raw material to determine the shot list.
- Manipulating film and video footage using modern editing techniques.
- Maintaining continuity while moving shots according to scene value.
- Trimming footage and putting together the rough project.
- Inserting dialog, sound effects, music, graphics, and special effects.
- Ensuring the project follows a logical sequence.
- Consulting with the director and production team throughout the project.
- Creating the final cut for broadcasting.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven work experience as a video editor with a strong portfolio.
- Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g., Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut, Avid Media Composer, Lightworks).
- Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
- Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation, and continuity.
- Familiarity with special effects, 3D, and compositing.
- Creative mind and storytelling skills.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in film studies, cinematography, or related field is advantageous.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work under deadline pressure.
- Organization to manage their time efficiently.
- Ability to capture snippets of film and edit it into a cohesive story.
- Flexibility and good listening skills.
- Enough patience to listen to feedback and work to improve it.
